Latest News from Long Grove! Summer Series # 2

Hello Everyone,

I hope all of you are having a good summer and have cooled off a little since the last newsletter. If you're not already subscribed to the Village of Long Grove newsletter, please subscribe on their website.

The Hot Topics for residents in the most recent issue:

1. The village is seeking residents with alternative energy systems experts.

Long Grove's Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals (PCZBA) is currently seeking residents who have expertise or backgrounds working with alternative energy systems (solar, wind, geothermal and others). Interested individuals are being asked to attend the August 6, 2019 PCZBA meeting, and can contact Long Grove Village Planner Jim Hogue for more information at 847-634-9440.

2. Nicor Installing New Devices on Natural Gas Meters.

Nicor Gas continues to install two-way communication devices on all business and residential natural gas meters in the Village. Natural gas usage will be more accurately computed with this new technology in place, and it will eliminate the need for estimated bills. Services will not be disrupted. For properties that have an accessible meter, no action is needed. Residents or businesses with meters that are not accessible will be contacted by Nicor to schedule an appointment so the device can be installed. For more information, please call Nicor at 855-333-4347 or click here.

3. Ruse Burglary

A ruse burglary occurred recently in Long Grove when a homeowner was lured out of the home by an offender, as accomplices came into the home through a different entry point and burglarized it - taking jewelry and other valuable items. Residents are urged to be cautious when individuals show up at their doorsstating they are checking the water supply/water pressure, or suggesting there are electrical problems or other needed repairs. Additionally, ask for identification and do not allow strangers to come into homes or move you away from unlocked front doors. Ruse burglaries most often happen during the late morning/early afternoon hours through 5:00 p.m. These criminals generally target people who live alone, and/or the elderly.

The Lake County Sheriff suggests that residents pay attention to the physical characteristics and attire of people who show up at their front doors. If possible, try to note the license plate number and make/model of the offender(s) vehicle. Individuals who have been a victim of a ruse burglary, or have seen suspicious vehicles or persons approaching neighbors are asked to call the Sheriff at 847-549-5200 to report the incident - or dial 911 if the offense is in progress.

Travel into yesteryear, with an eye toward our future.....

Long Grove E-Newsletter Edition 49                               August 1, 2019
Greetings!

In this newsletter, you will find information about protecting yourself against a ruse burglary, as well as West Nile Virus, which includes reporting standing water to help control mosquitoes. A road project is coming soon to Rt. 53 and Old Hicks Road, and another road resurfacing project recently kicked off on Rt. 22 between Quentin Road and Old McHenry Road - both are expected to cause traffic delays. While the Old McHenry Road project is wrapping up, the Robert Parker Coffin Road (RPC) project has just begun; RPC Road will be closed for the duration of the project. Businesses in the downtown will remain open during the RPC project, with alternative access points and parking. Residents are reminded to call JULIE at 811 before digging, and to attend the Recycle-O-Rama event this coming Saturday in Lake Bluff. Nicor Gas continues to install new communication devices on meters throughout the Village to provide more accurate billing for customers. Please also see the Village's meeting calendar below.

Thank you!

IDOT Begins Asphalt Resurfacing on Rt. 22: Expect Traffic Delays
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) began an asphalt resurfacing project earlier this week on Rt. 22 between Quentin Road and Old McHenry Road, and the project is expected to last until the end of September, weather-permitting. Significant traffic delays are anticipated; work will begin at 7:00 a.m. and end at 7:00 p.m. Motorists are advised to utilize detours.
Coming Up Soon:
Road Construction Alert for Rt. 53/Old Hicks Road
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is planning to begin a construction project on Rt. 53 and Old Hicks Road, picking up from the previous utility work that caused traffic backups in the early spring. Periodic lane closures are expected to begin again in the coming weeks, though IDOT has not provided the Village with a schedule for the project at this time. Once it begins, residents should expect intermittent lane closures and resulting traffic delays. Closures will not be permitted during the peak hours of 6:00-8:30 a.m. and 4:30-6:00 p.m. Motorists are encouraged to utilize detours for the duration of the project. For questions, please call IDOT Project Manager Jonathan Shumacher at 847-705-4260 or via email at Jonathan.Schumacher@illinois.gov.

RPC Road Project Update
The Robert Parker Coffin (RPC) Road project is now underway. Westbound RPC will remain closed during the road reconstruction while eastbound RPC will have periodic lane closuresExtension of the public watermain down RPC Road will occur first, and will provide access to public water for all downtown properties in order to attract new businesses. Other planned improvements include streetlights, benches, ADA accessible sidewalks, new landscaping and storm sewer improvements. As part of this project, the RPC Bridge will be physically moved to the
west of its current location, and the Bridge will be 'out' with no access to it as abutments are being replaced. The historic iron truss will also be removed during this time, and then moved back over the abutments. The Bridge will also be painted as part of this project.

The entire project is planned to be finished prior to Thanksgiving (weather-permitting). During this project, signage will direct shoppers to access points for all businesses. Main entrances for businesses affected by the RPC Road closure will utilize rear entrances for access and remain open during construction. Temporary signs are in place at entrances for the Village Tavern and Stempel parking lots, where parking is available to shoppers.
