Downtown Construction, Festivals for 2019 and more!
We are finally thawing here in Long Grove, and while the Winter was fairly quiet, we are going into Long Grove’s busy season. This year there are continued challenges with downtown construction, construction that continues on Route 53 and Old Hick’s Rd., as well as festival updates residents should know about. To start off, lets get some general links out to the new followers on the email list. There are a lot of new residents!
New Municipal Village Website
As always should follow the Village’s new website here: https://www.longgroveil.gov/ This is the official Municipal site of Long Grove.

Downtown Festivals & Events
For downtown events, shopping info, and other business related news follow the Business Association website here: http://longgrove.org/
The large festivals this year will occur starting in May, with Chocolate Fest May 17th-19th. Chocolate and Strawberry will be set up much like past festivals. The main stage will be by the Historic Bridge, food and alcohol vendors will be on the west end of Robert Parker Coffin (RPC). Additional vendors will spread out to the east side of RPC and there will be a kids area, and carnival as far as we are aware of.
Apple Fest will be held in the Stempel Municipal Parking Lot, and will be restricted from using RPC according to the official approved special event permits issued by Long Grove. This is due in part to the construction that starts on RPC in June of this year. Yes, more construction, but this will include a new streetscape, sewer and other improvements on RPC as well as the repairs to the Historic Bridge and Canopy. This project is Village owned and officially begins once Old McHenry is done. Once RPC is done, Historic Downtown will be complete!

In a renewed effort and after many Resident complaints from the 2018 season, the festival organizers have promised to better enforce parking on private property, have promised to increase their eye for safety and will have other measures in place according to approved special event applications. We strongly urge residents who have issues during festivals to continue to file complaints with Lake County Sheriff 847.377.4000 and Village Hall 847.634.9440.
Historic Bridge Closure
It has been confirmed that the Historic Bridge may be closed as early as June (After Chocolate Fest) and will likely stay closed through Fall or at least until after Apple Fest for restoration and canopy construction. We will provide more updates on this when they are available.
New Public Park and Walkway
There is a new park coming to Long Grove! The land that borders the Buffalo Creek Waterway in downtown will be developed into a walking path and park. Funding is coming from the Downtown Business Association and others have donated time to help the effort. There has been an effort to beautify the land from the Historic Bridge down to the Stempel Parking lot for some time. This land is currently owned by the Long Grove Park District, and will help connect a number of walking paths when it’s done. We will provide more updates on this when they are available.
